Kevin M. Whelley

Kevin Whelley is a welcome addition to our Board of Directors. Kevin was born in Queens, NY, but was raised in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Kevin has over two decades of experience in both the human service and behavioral health fields, spending much of the past decade focused on the treatment of substance use disorders. Kevin earned a Masters in Elementary School Counseling, and his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Secondary School Counseling at the University of Scranton.

In his current position as Program Director, Kevin is responsible for the implementation and continued growth of the Wellbeing Initiative at the five participating YMCAs in NEPA. Previous to the Greater Scranton YMCA, Kevin served in various roles at Clearbrook Treatment Center, Pyramid Healthcare, Just Believe Recovery Center and Gosnold of Cape Cod.

For Kevin, the strength and resiliency within others, as well as one’s ability to overcome adversity and continue to grow and thrive in spite of their circumstances, are his motivation. Kevin is excited to join the NEPA Pride Coalition because the work the coalition does to provide education and awareness in order to promote the health and wellness of LGBTQIA+ individuals and families is deeply personal for him. Kevin is motivated for the work ahead and we are thrilled he has joined our mission.
